caravatti_caravatti architetti is an architectural design studio based in Monza, founded in 1994 by Emilio Caravatti together with Matteo Caravatti, Chiara Gugliotta and Elena Verri.
The activity deals predominantly with community issues, combining daily professional practice with an ongoing engagement in various areas of marginality. This is evidenced by both public projects currently underway in Italy, as well as collective infrastructures in sub-Saharan Africa. The firm is among the founders of Africabougou Onlus and scatolAperta, two nonprofits that focus on the application and dissemination of architecture in under-explored geographic and social realities.
Finalists of the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture in 2009 and 2015, the studio boasts a long list of awards in design competitions. They have received major awards for their work, most recently the Gold medal at the 12th “International Prize for Sustainable Architecture” and the “Italian Architect 2017” award from the National Council of Architects in Rome for architecture that is “respectful not only of places, but also of the social contexts in which it fits.”
