Design for Peace – awarding grants to young Ukrainian refugees is a project that follows the guidelines for building the necessary next steps and systematizing creativity and cooperation in an effort to define a vision for the post-war reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.
The project, proposed and managed by the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservationists and carried out in collaboration with the Association of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservationists of the province of Rome and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Italian Republic, provides for 10 grants to be awarded to ten young Ukrainian architects under 35 who have found refuge in our country following the events of the war.
A specific Announcement has been drafted, for which the National Council of Architects will be the guarantor for the procedures for selecting the Ukrainian architects and for checking the requisites of the Italian architectural firms that are to host them.
For four months, the 10 Ukrainian architects will be hosted by Italian professional firms to work through workshops on recovery and re-design projects of some of the iconic places of the Ukrainian cities hit by the violence of the ongoing war. The Italian firms are to accompany the Ukrainian architects with a graduate architect tutor under 35 years of age.
The planned locations will be directly designated by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Italian Republic.
At the end of the workshop period, the projects will be collected, published and presented in a dedicated exhibition hosted at the Roman Aquarium, headquarters of the Association of Architects of Rome. The authorship of the projects will remain with the young Ukrainian designers.
There is no remuneration for the hosting Italian firms that will be providing hospitality in addition to the technical support and know-how for the definition of the projects, while a grant is planned for the 10 Ukrainian architects of €1500 per month for the four months of the workshops.
